Visiting A Friend In Margate

(A Short Poem)

I make it my habit to greet you

Walking out, over slippery rocks

Whatever the moment, whatever the mood

You’re steady and sure, round the clock

— —

Giving nothing away in your silence

Side by side, we take in your view

The longer I stay, the more I can see

This is peace and contentment. It’s new.

— —

At times you slip out of sight

I forget you, get on with life’s list

Then out of the deep, I see you again

I remember. I’m glad you exist.

(Thanks to Anthony Gormley and to Wendy Cope.)

The Low Door.

Kitchen Epiphany.

Something Must Be Done.
